Now we realize that not all of you are "facebookers", so if you are not and you would like to be updated by way of e-mail, please make a comment of it on here so that we may add you to our e-mail list...which will have FB pics on it and my personal messages. The amount of html it takes to "write" this page into looking like something nice and fun (versus the basic sampler) is quite annoying to have to do and is quite cumbersome. We prefer to spend that time with each other and our son.

So, my e-mail is amynelsonrn@yahoo.com and you may write to us anytime to add you to our list of updates if you prefer and are not on facebook. If you are on FB, here is my profile badge with my full name on it and (if Jon or I know you),... we'll add you.

<a href="">

Three months old yesterday and pics from the last posting...

<img style="float:left; My hat and booties did not fit. The Doctor says that my head is too big! LOL! But the sweater made it as a "going-home outfit" though it was in the 90's that day. We just drove 5 minutes to the house...but we got a few pictures for you of it. :) We'll send you (by e-mail) the other pics of Cal in it.

Hope you all enjoy the pics. As you can tell from the pics, Jon and both are a little out of it still, but I am now off of the narcotics as the spinal headache has gone away and the incision and mastitis pain is bearable with ibuprofen now. Praise the Lord for that. We are getting by with the help of "Nana" as well as that the church is providing meals to us three times per week. We are so thankful. It has taken all that is in us to keep up with all the meds I have been on along with his frequent feedings (Calvin had jaundice) as well as the diaper changing swaddling and other immediate needs. We are just so thankful that the house is not a wreck as it likely would have been otherwise. Thank you to those of you who are from the church and to the Croskreys for the meals this last week. We have been so blessed as eating out would have not been an option at all. Thanks so much and Have a Great Day!

<img style="float:left; Here are a few of (I'm sure) many that you can join our family in praying for:

1) a safe delivery of Calvin
2) that Calvin will be healthy
3) that Amy will be healthy during and after the delivery process
4) that pain will be minimal for Amy
5) for a good and quick recovery for Amy
6) for Jon involving his "support" and "coaching" role
7) for preparation to be complete
8) good communication amongst ourselves and the medical team
9) for a (Lord Willing) soon recovery
10) for Jon's work needs to be met prior to and after the delivery as well
11) for all of us to get rest upon coming home from the hospital
12) for provision for Bogart during all of this

Thanks for all the support we have seen and received due to this website. We may not always know you are watching (though many of you tell me so on Facebook)....Nonetheless, we know we are blessed with many dear friends. Thanks for any prayers and support during this time.

For The First Few Months....

So, it has come to my attention, from several new mothers, that strangers in public not only like to touch your preggo belly (Thankfully has only happened once here in the "cold" North), but also love to touch babies of strangers in public.

Let me first say that most of our friends have been very understanding when I asked them not to stand too close to me when they were sick as I kept getting sick throughout my pregnancy (3 colds, bronchitis, and an upper respiratory infection to be exact).

But a recent stranger "touching scare" shared by my friend (we'll call her KT) has made me aware that this is a serious issue. In her situation, her one year old was soundly sleeping in the shopping cart, and a stranger grabbed her baby's face and said "Wake up Baby, Wake Up!!". KT grabbed her hand and moved her away and then the lady mentioned that she noticed the baby to not be strapped in. This is classic abductor-type observation that the lady mentioned here. Most people will not make a personal mental note of whether your child is strapped in or not. Nonetheless, it scared the **** out of KT and of course, would have been considered "unwanted touch" and therefor a technical "assualt" on the child by this stranger in public.

After hearing this story, I felt sick to my stomach for the last few days and have decided when out in public, to keep Cal's car seat covered as much as possible and with a sign on the seat similar to the one above.

But after thinking on this, being the nurse that I am; it has dawned on me that I ought to share own "home rules" on our website for our Little One's soon-to-be delivery. These are values well thought out by ourselves and we ask that others just be respectful of them.

1) When desiring to come to our home to see ourselves and Calvin,... please call first. I have no clue what medical condition *any* of us will be in and may not even be able answer the door at all. I don't want anyone to waste gas or effort to have to be turned away.

2) Please be aware that we prefer not to have young children in our home for quite some time at all. It's just our desire right now. It would not be our desire for you to arrive to our home with young children in tow.

3) Know that we will provide hand sanitizer at all times for people without sickness to hold or touch Calvin, but prefer that he not be touched without first handwashing in some form. This is just (as the title herein says)for the first few months. Afterwhich, the sanitizer/hand washing will not be a priority unless the other person really is sick.

4) If you see signs on our car seat asking for you to look and not touch (as shown above)... these are because the situation with KT opened our eyes to the amt of ignorant people that really do scare parents in public. We know these signs are for the general public... but we may not take the sign off the carrier out of convenience.

5) Lastly,.... Please bear with me as I attempt to type this as I have only a couple of weeks left, am still hormonal, and will ALWAYS be... a Nurse.

****Since being pregnant some persons have attempted to argue or criticize my views on several topics of pregnancy/child-rearing like: diet, breastfeeding, diapering, scheduling and the like. Many people thinking my more conservative views to be because I am the more "tightly wound" personality. Nonetheless, please do not ask me to change my views and/or criticise me for my requests in these areas. The views above are based on my years of *actual* medical practice. To some they are liberal,... to some people they seem legalistic. The thing that we need most right now is support for us new parents and the opportunity to experience raising our son as we want and desire. Unless, you see us terribly damaging our child... please do not think that criticisms/challenges are welcomed. We already question enough what kind of parents we will be like as, it seems, all new parents do... and it may be that your lack of encouragement may be seen as a lack of love for us...instead of helpfulness. I'm sure that to not be true for most people, but it is still hurtful nonetheless. Just being honest here. If we are concerned and want more information on Calvin's healthcare/physical needs this first year...we will ask, of course.

We know our actual friends and family will understand these requests and be willing to show courtesy.

Thank you for your understanding...and for those of you reading... if you like, here is an article that speaks to touching babies hands and so forth as well. I do not, in the least, expect other to take up my particular views on such things involving medicine and babies just because I am a nurse.... and it is true that I research many areas of medicine and often. If you want to know more about the topic of germs....read on... otherwise, of course I will not ask you to follow my own convictions.

On topics other than the physical needs of our baby, I will often be at a loss and love your input as I ask for it. It's just that in these.. I am likely not to change unless the research changes.

http://www.mytinyhands.com/germfaq.htm

Thanks again.
Today's appt.

Today's appt. went well. Calvin is "vertex" (meaning: head down) and occiput posterior (meaning: his arms and legs are right under my belly button versus facing my spine). He is still very active and his heartrate was great. The doc said that at this point we are "in the clear" and that likely if I delivered that Cal would only need a few days of help in the NICU. He is also believing Calvin to be around 6 lbs... which is great and more the weight of the average baby at 35 weeks. I turn 36 weeks on Saturday and am so thankful for God's sovereignty to keep Cal safe and sound in my belly despite his several attempts to come early. I am feeling well and the nursery is basically in order as well as a car seat is in the Pontiac G6 now. I want to go ahead and pack my bags soon, but keep putting it off and taking naps instead due to sleepiness (which I feel fully justified in doing..lol). So we are in the homestretch. Thanks for the support of each of you who have prayed and/or called. I can not count the numbers of people who have called several times per week asking specifically how myself and Cal are doing catching us at mealtime, nap-time, and throughout the day. The support has shown true love to us and we all thank you for the kindness of your support.
As far as everything else going on right now there are a few special prayer requests as we are praying which way to go as far as Jon requests with the military on where to live and/or renewing to stay in at all. We believe God has a path for our little family and it is really just a matter now of seeking God's guidance on what *HE* (God) wants most of all. We covet your prayers regarding that as it is always a question in the military families' mind (with safety/war issues and more) and even more so on years where the prior obligation has been fulfilled and the officer is up for either being able to get out or stay in. The Lord is Sovereign though and we believe he will guide us just as he has done all along on our paths thusfar. It's just a matter of seeking God's face on the issue and doing what is best for our family. We appreciate your support of prayer in this matter and are thankful that God will lead us as his children.

Hold On!

So Cal is still "raring" to go here on some days. This last Thursday I started contracting again (after Calvin "dropped" for the second time) for about 10 hours, but it wasn't so bad this time. They were every 8 minutes apart so not close enough to go to the hospital, but enough to be sore afterwards. They were the same feeling as when I was in the hospital also... so, I am thankful that they did not speed up like before. I have done much of nothing the last few weeks so there is no particular reason for which this happened again and I was reminded that over 50% of pre-term births are unexplainable. See ... the March of Dimes Website. It explains that "Only about half the women who have preterm labor fall into any known risk group." So far this is the category that I fall into right now... the "unknown" group. LOL. Nevertheless, I am thankful that things are better now and I am ultimately feeling well. Also, I am just so thankful that Calvin is still doing well (it seems) and is very active... part of the reason I suspect this is happening. He's just a very active little boy. We'll see. We are getting excited now! Only 5 weeks and a few days left!

Nursery Updates.

<img style="float:left; I called the doc who had me come into the hospital and admitted me for medications. I was dilated 2 cm and Calvin was "engaged" at what we medical people call Zero Station... which just means that his head was already between pelvic joints and ready to birth if I had continued to dilate. Soon, I began to contract every four minutes and was 80% effaced. So, we are quite thankful for modern day medicine and all the wonderful work of the nurses and my doctor who were able to get things to stop. After a good 7 hours of contractions and issues, the medications finally started to kick in and to prevent much further dialation. By the next day I had reverted back to 1 cm and no contractions...so Praise God for the blessing of modern day medicines.

We are prayerful and hopeful that things will be OK, but ask for your prayers that little Cal will remain in utero as long as possible so as to prevent short and long-term disease or fatality. We covet and appreciate any prayer support for our little family at this point and will keep you posted. I am now on modified household restrictions and Lord willing will not have to do all of this again in the next four weeks. I am currently 32 weeks and the doc really wants to get me to 36-37 weeks before I deliver and thus if I begin to have similar symptoms we will have to go back to the hospital and do all of this all over again. Thanks for any prayers. At present I am actaully doing more of a "bed rest" for my own peace of mind...for at least the next week and then will attempt the OB's suggestions for activities of daily living. We are just wanting to be precautious as there is no definitive reason for which all of this began in the first place. On a positive note, Calvin had an ultrasound while I was in the hospital that measured his approximate weight at 4 pounds and 13 ounces...which is a very healthy size for this week of gestation. So that is wonderful and we are so thankful that he is doing well despite all of his attempts to make his way into the world a little too early. It may be that we are seeing a part of his personality already! lol. Thank you for your prayers and if you see me "taking it easy" or if you notice me being "out of commission" and not attending events.. then you will now know why. Thanks for your support. -Amy

Calvin: It's Inevitable.

So Cal is named after John Calvin (the predominant theologian of the Great Reformation) as well as after Cal Ripken, Jr. (Jon's all-time favorite baseball player)... though most people wonder if it has anything to do with Calvin and Hobbes. Though his namesakes are certainly more substantial than a cute comic strip, we are more than aware that he may get this comparison for some time. Thankfully, both Jon and I really like the Calvin and Hobbes books and comic series as published in most newspapers. Here's a cute graphic of that cute kid himself. Of course, most people know that I have had a fairly hard pregnancy thus far. Jon has handled it well, but I (on the other hand) have not "enjoyed" it until about 3 weeks ago. The pain from my Thoracic Outlet Syndrome has gone away. I am not so sure why unless the fact that Calvin sits strait out in front of me has anything to do with the relief of pressure off my clavicles and upper-most ribs. Either way- I am quite thankful. Next on the schedule is a blood glucose challenge test tomorrow to check for gestational diabetes. This is done for all pregnant women around the 26-28 week time frame. I turned 27 weeks yesterday and thus the test will be tomorrow. I am getting very sleepy this weekend for some reason. I have been sleeping well the last three weeks with the TOS relief and only waking between 2- 5 times per night which is very normal for me anyway and much more easy to handle than the prior 8-14 times per night. I can feel Calvin move so much more than before as he is starting to get much larger. One website I read today says that he is the size of a head of cauliflower...which is just funny to think about, but definitly helps others to better understand. He should weigh about 2 lbs and be about 14 and 1/2 inches long. His eyes should be open now and if he were to deliver early, it is quite safe for him to come into the world now as the lungs have been excreting surfactant for about 3 weeks now. The only new symptoms have been leg related as the uterus and Calvin sit on my leg "outlets" for blood and nerve flow. Thus, I have Sciatica in my right leg (when I stand), as well as leg cramps and Restless Leg Syndrome at night in bed. It seems like a never- ending amt of symptoms sometimes, but as my doctor said, it is the changes and variety of multiple symptoms at a time that overwhelms the pregnant women as her body must ever evolve to compensate for a quickly growing life inside. I am VERY happy, though, as it does not involve nausea (my most hated of all symptoms) and/or the TOS(my second most hated symptom). TOS is very painful to the biceps, fingers, arms, neck muscles and chest wall. I pray that it stays away.

I just wanted to pass along the update. Calvin seems to be quite happy en-utero as he is frequently moving and jumping. He is so cute now cause he can hear when I talk and sing and can get startled at a loud noise. When he can't calm down enough for me to sleep at night, I ask Jon to put his hand on my belly and help him to relax. Jon has the magic touch. I presume it's because his hands are warm and heavy, but for a long time (between weeks 14- 23) Jon never felt Calvin move as I did because everytime he would place his hand on my belly, Calvin would calm down. The first time Jon actually felt him, Jon stated that it felt as if he had kirate drop kicked me. I laughed as I knew that was one of Calvin's much smaller "kicks" and explained that when he does that to certain organs that it is not so fun. A couple of weeks later (week 25), Jon and I were watching something on his lap-top PC and Calvin distracted my eyes with a jump or kick that made my belly move. "Jon!...Look!", was my statement at that point. And as soon as Jon looked again my belly moved for both of us to see and looked as if something the size of a tennis ball had bounced onto the inside of my skin, and quickly.

Calvin is on a very certain schedule. When he is asleep I can fall asleep and that is about every half hour that he sleeps. He wakes after about a half hour of sleep as well, so it is my prerogative to wait in bed until he calms down(in his own sleep rotation) to even attempt to close my eyes as it is a pointless effort otherwise. Once asleep, with pillows propped against my stomach to prevent so much freedom for this little boy, I am blessed by God to be so sleepy from hormones to "make it" until about 3 am, when he must start to get some glucose going again and wakes me for my "morning bathroom" break (which is always subsequent to a nice kick in the bladder). LOL. I am happy to meet him one day and somewhat aware of how much he may have this same energy outside of the womb as inside. So I am mentally preparing for some sleepless nights ahead as well.

Our church members have blessed us with many items for Calvin and the nursery. Being military, we are happy and appreciative for any help we are offered and do not require brand new items in the least.. though I have done a lot of research to make sure the items have not been recalled or had any defective problems. We hope to continue to see God's blessings as he had blessed us with this sweet child and so much more along this journey. I am so thankful for His Covenantal Provision to us (His children) in bringing our son to be and so far(to the best of our knowledge) to be healthy. We are so thankful and look forward to the upcoming last 13 weeks here as we prepare the nursery and our home for a sweet arrival, Lord Willing (as we try to always say and think).

Here's a pic of me at 25 weeks and of Bogart getting a bath. The MD stated it was fine to go but warned that I use hand sanitizer everywhere for the first few days. I have been contagious since at least monday and had to stop my piano students from coming in this week. I love teaching piano, but I am sure my parents and students really appreciate the sentiment. Nevertheless, Jon and I are headed to the great state of VA once again. Jon has a class at the Army JAG school. Last month it was FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) classes in DC. This time I do not know what the classes are but I am glad I get to hang out on the grounds at UVA some. It is a pretty campus and I will shop in Williamsburg at the shops for some more maternity clothing! Yay. And Jon is just excited to get to golf a time when it is not 32 degrees outside. Jon is scheduled in Charlottesville again in April for a week.

You're in Over Your Head.

Well, maybe I should say that I am "Head over Heels" or "Jumping in Feet First". Hum?? I'm not so good with idioms. Anyway- this morning I was thinking of a couple of people we know who are pregnant and then some more who are trying, and it made me think back to when I first fell in love with Calvin. And yes I did say "fell in love". I mean when I first found out we were expecting it was not shocking as we had been hoping to get pregnant, but I did not have any sort of emotional investment,.... I just felt horrible and that's all I could think about.

I have friends who lost babies to miscarriage at 6 weeks pregnant and were totally invested in their child, and of course it was heart wrenching. But if I am honest with myself, that did not come for me until our first ultrasound.

To want to have kids, to be married, to have anything you currently do not have can be very hard to handle. Ask my dad, he knows I understand this truth as well as anyone. But let me tell you,... to think of losing(or not having) these things after they have been entrusted to you can be very hard to even think of. Lord willing, you don't have to.

Well, the day I saw Calvin on that first ultrasound and he jumped from one side of the placental sac to the other,... he had me. Hook. Line. and Sinker. Seeing his sweet little head and arms and especially those long little fingers splayed out for everyone to see. All I could think was: "God, he is beautiful!".

So, this pregnancy for me is not about getting something I didn't have before. It's not about keeping up with a standard... I was happy prior to getting pregnant as well (and without all the symptoms I've had). But this is now about Calvin. God's choice of him and only him to bring into this world at his appointed time only. This child was not a girl, not another boy, but this particular little boy.

What a Sovereign miracle of God's own choosing. I don't deserve him; I didn't earn him; I can't keep him forever; and really he's not "mine" per se. He's God's child entrusted to us for the time God gives him to be under our care. This is really the same with marriage, houses or material possessions, health, friends, wealth, blessings, and all else that crosses this short path towards eternity that we call "Life". All of which ("good" and "not so good" things) lead us to a better understanding of the "forever" which is to come. In the meantime, I have just learned to say "Thank You" to our Good Lord for everything he has brought into my life and trust him with even my(our) sweet little Calvin.

Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow!

So this last week I was tested for Fifths Disease. This is a very common parvovirus that only humans pass on to other humans and is usually spread most often by children at school who pass it around. Evidently it causes no harm to children and shows up in the form of a rash (often called "Slapped Cheek Syndrome" for the way the rash gives the impression of a child who has been slapped on both cheeks) and also flu-like symptoms. If an adult contracts this "disease", it will not hurt them unless they are: 1)pregnant or 2)have a low immune system. In pregnant women it can cause the baby in utero to have severe anemia and in 5% of that population cause fetal demise. So you can see how relieved I must have been when I found out this morning that my blood tests show that I do not have Fifths Disease but rather a strange form of ezcema-like dermatitis. The titers also showed that somewhere in my history I was already exposed to this (likely from another child) and am now immune from getting it at all. Whew!! This was even more relieving to me because while I was waiting in the OB/GYN waiting room, a beautiful mother decided to anounce to the whole waiting room that her son came home yesterday from school with Fifths Disease and the clear "slapped"-like cheek symptom. So- of course, I waited there in misery as I thought of all the mothers who likely walk through the waiting room with children who got it from another child in public school only to pass it along to unsuspecting vulnerable pregnant women who can miscarry their sweet babies because of the lack of discretion on these parents parts. It's unfortunate that most parents have not even heard of this, so I know it's not intentional. Yet, it sure makes me want to rethink drinking out of the public water fountain or hanging out with kids I don't know. I am just glad that I am immune ultimately and do not have to watch out for the kids at church pawing at the after-church refreshments and instead be able to pick them up and give them a big Amy hug. Ah- germs. I hate them.

Not Carpal Tunnel

So the doctor says that I have pregnancy-induced Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. He says that CTS does not have pain that goes up to the biceps like mine does, but that TOS has pain that shoots down from the biceps all the way to the fingers along with similar numbing. Evidentally when I sleep on my arms at all it cuts off circulation to my arms and pinches all the nerves as well. Thus he approved me to sleep on my back until week 26... I am at week 19 now. So this is great. Last night I slept on my back and only woke up once... which is amazing for me. The rash is still being determined,.... they are testing me for a thing called Fifths Disease and as long as that comes back negative tomorrow then we will assume that it is due to new-onset eczema. Ah, the North! So hope this helps to update those listening and hope to have great news in the future that the TOS goes away after delivery.

I love you, but "You're Killin' Me".

So this morning, I was working at the computer some and I guess Calvin got comfortable in the sitting position that I was in because as soon as I got up, he started moving rapidly. My whole front and right side of my body started having pains of him rubbing his head around and then followed by shooting pain. I almost fell on the floor! No kidding. The doctors have always thought I may have some endometriosis which can build up a lot of scar tissue. Thus, his moving around a lot started ricketing pain all over. It took about five minutes and me holding my belly asking "What are you doing in there?" for it to finally settle down. I'm afraid every organ may be damaged before this is all over with!! Seriously, I have never had such strange symptoms accompanied by pain before. So I guess my new prayer request is that I can make it through this pregnancy. lol. I also have symptoms of horrible carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands and arms(or pinched nerves). When I lie down at night, I can not lie on either side as my arms become extremely painful from the bicep down to my fingers.... so I am also having to be creative to figure out how I am supposed to lie in the bed???? This basically means that right now, I do not know how to. lol. So pray for my health and also the baby to not hurt me too bad in the process.
PS- He's 7 ounces and about 7 inches long now.

Update: I have been reading that pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel is pretty common and very painful. It sometimes requires acupuncture, massage, and/or surgery to help during the pregnancy.

Most Recent Ultrasound Pics

This is our favorite of the many ultrasound pics that we were blessed to receive. His or her neck is complete, and your baby even has fingerprints.

He or she is beginning to move around in the amniotic fluid, which, by the way, replenishes itself every three hours. Fetal movement, or "quickening," can occur as early as this week, so be alert for fluttering sensations in your belly. If you can't feel them, however, don't worry, they're more likely to occur between the 18th to 22nd week. In subsequent pregnancies, fetal movement usually is felt earlier."
I am unsure of how long it will be to feel the baby, but so look forward to it. In the meantime I hope to get some update photos of Jon and I on here. Hope all of you are well.

Ultrasound!!

Our first ultrasound was last Wednesday January 9th. We really enjoyed the evening as we finally announced to the command that we are expecting and also enjoyed winning golf balls in the Chinese Gift Exchange.

As far as "update", Jon and I are headed to the OB today. This will be my third appointment, but today is different because we will hear the heart beat today. We were supposed to have an ultrasound also but are unsure if we are going to be able to do this today based on insurance. We will not know until we speak with the doctor. I am eleven weeks and five days along right now and will technically be in the second trimester on Saturday. Jon has been supportive as my symptoms especially nausea had continued non-stop up until six days ago. Now the nausea just comes on for a few hours in the late afternoon/early evening, but either way it can be quite debilitating. It is not fun at all. We are just so thankful that these symptoms are a daily reminder that we have a little Nelson growing inside me and what a blessing that is!

Arrival Expected July 27th, 2008 First Class Delivery!

So yes! After one year of being married we are blessed to announce the news of our first child-to-be. We found out in mid-November that I am expecting and we have been so excited as we had been praying for us to conceive since August. It has been a rough ten weeks for me with every symptom in the book. Worst have been fatigue and nausea that have been constant since week 4 and have not let up. We are currently at fetal week 10. Our baby developed from an embryo to a fetus recently and should soon start to be getting his/her own hormone production from the placenta versus my body and after which point I should start to feel better. He/She is over 1.5 inches long and has developed all major organs fingers, and toes. The baby's heart beat was already developed by week 7, but we will hear the first sounds on Doppler around week 12 which is coming up the first week of January.

It was an exciting Christmas time for my family as we were able to travel to SC to visit them this Christmas. Their considerateness and love were so evident as even our extended family made sure that my brother's wife and my cousin's wife (who are also expecting) and I were taken care of at the holiday meal, making sure we had decaffeinated sweet tea in plenteous amounts and made sure our prime rib was cooked well by my uncle so as to prevent listeria. Our aunts took pictures of the three pregnant girls and our bellies and I received my first baby present (a nice new baby diaper bag with preppy patterns and styles just like I like!) for my birthday present. It was such a joyous and sweet time! My Aunt Becky gave everyone special books that she thought of for each person and and she wrote a note in the front of each one to all 18 of us! We also all spoke of Grandma and Grandpa quite a bit, missing them and engulfing the desserts of cheesecake, red velvet cake, and caramel cake that Grandma always used to make.
Christmas at Mom's was sweet with lots of gameplaying with Brad and Mom and dinners with Chris as well as Christmas decorations galore. The house looked beautiful and so inviting. At Dad and Joyce's, we visited Mrs. Garrett's (Joyce's mom) home for homecookin' lunch and also Dad and Joyce and the kids all exchanged presents... with Baby Wilson getting his own gifts. He is due February 15th!! Leah is adorable. Leah and I got surprise gifts from Joyce from a baby store of her sister-in-law as Jon picked out a very colorful peacock toy and I picked out a bib.... Joyce gave us a diapee and wipee keeper for the new diaper bag. The store was beautiful and opened just for us personally.

Back to the baby! We are still unsure if our insurance will pay for more than one ultrasound and since we both want to know the gender we are fine with waiting until the 18th week to find out if necessary, although we were hoping even have one at 12 weeks as well. We will continue to keep you all posted as we hear any developing news and are just so thankful to the Lord for our little family!

Aubinwood Bogart A.K.A. But thankfully to some kind people in the management at Yahoo!, I was able to get us up and running one more time.
Since we last posted several things have happened. We traveled to Maine for Jon's work. Maine is gorgeous and we loved it there in Brunswick. I have started interviewing for jobs here in Newport. We bought a sweet little puppy Bogart named afte Humphrey Bogart on Casablanca since that is Jon's favorite movie. We have also finished out softball season with the base team and I am complete with projects around the house. Our master bath is finally complete. Also Jon's parents and my mom visited recently this summer and really enjoyed their stay. I will post some pics soon of Bogart. We call him Bogey, Bogestimeister, Bogsey, Bogeloge, and fifty million other names and he seems to respond to them all. He has learned already alot of commands (over 15!) and is finally learning to heel some as well which we have found is really hard to teach a puppy. He is really smart and so cute it just brings joy to our hearts to have him here and we certainly look forward to watching him grow and become fully trained.

Here's different pics of the last 6 mths. Today Jon is away on business to Okinawa. We parted ways yesterday on our 6th month anniversary and it was a tear jerker for sure. But now it leaves me with some time to reflect on the last several months and quiet. Over and over people here ask us how we met and we often tell them the "short version" of the story to save time, but ultimately ours is a lifelong story which only God could orchestrate.
I grew up always knowing I wanted to make a wise decision when it came to marrying... and Jon too. We both had our needs and wants and even in print. It has been this way for me for three years. Well for the complete list it had been three years. Nevertheless, I had been working on some part of a written list for many many years before that. I can't say I didn't want to settle. I see now that most people want to. But thank God for men and women who do not settle. It's just too important a decision. Ultimately my list went like this: Christian-Protestant; PCA or reformed presbyterian; outgoing/social personality; attractive; a leader who could lead my personality; someone with similiar values of the family/family worship; music-lover; wanted many children; someone who would like to homeschool; someone without a temper; someone who was very loving; and someone who could handle conflict correctly. Jon is all of these, Praise God. But meeting and getting to know Jon was much easier a task than knowing what I needed/wanted...knowing me. Alot of people see it the other way around. They believe that meeting the guy is much harder than knowing and sticking to what you need/want. I thought so too until now looking back. These were significant and substantial values that came from many experiences and heart breaking lessons. Maybe I just have to learn the hard way, but I know of many who are taught early on what is the better ways to learn about marriage and growing up.
With each lesson came a better understanding of an important value that I would then add to my list. Of the items on my list came other subsets of needs and wants specifically related to the listed value. For example, I didn't just want a christian, but a mature christian who knows how to rightly understand and teach the Word of God in our home A mature christian meant someone who is not a heavy drinker, irresponsible person, or unknowledgable about doctrine. With each value came a part of my history, character, and experience that helped me to better define that need.
I had to grow up and ultimately to not settle. I can see where I did start to learn by teaching versus experience and that made growing up more efficient, but I did not start getting this until the last few years. It took me some time to get to that point; but was facilitated by watching healthy christian marriages and by receiving Godly mentoring from much older women. As well, I had much older men in my life who scoped out Jon to make sure he was worthy of my time. Once we found out Jon's list was so similiar to mine, then and only then did we start to consider this may be an option for dating. After that, it was a growing dating process and the ultimate decision was ours(Jon and myself)to make. It was more fun after a good bit of the hard work was done, because only then would I open my feelings to him. God was gracious at our age to not have us be in a long, drawn out relationship that would ultimately waste our time and hearts. We did make sure we were being careful to not move faster than proper and to not wait longer than necessary. It was great for us at our age. I would likely handle things different if I had been younger. Nonetheless, I guess my "How I Met Your Father" story would be comprised of all the dates, experiences, life lessons, and developments that helped me to "Meet" myself just as "Ted" on the TV show has done. I once questioned why the show was set up this way, but it is now starting to make some sense.

Upcoming Trip

We are headed to Hawaii soon and I am so excited. It's Valentine's !! We should have snow on Valentine's, I think. It's much prettier. Though we are still in boxes...(we have one too many)... we are making our way through the first few months of marriage and learning quite a bit. We are learning how much in love we are as well as how much there is to learn. Not to mention, how to keep from getting sick, how to set up house, and also how to stay in touch with family and friends when we are 1,000 miles away from everybody.

So here's a wish for a Happy Valentine's Day and a hope for boxless, snow-filled days.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Some Newport Rhode Island Links

Here are some links to help you visit Newport when you want a cottage bed and breakfast weekend or a mansion get-away tour. The Cliff Walk is beautiful and the snowy streets are starting to come as we got a really good carpet of snow last night and expect more this week. Our driveway is gorgeous alone, but it is nothing held up to a Greek neoclassical mansion with Christmas lights and snow at night time. Check out the pics on this site:

Go Newport Dot Com

For a contemporary dinner in Providence or a small walk through the park at Brown University, check out these sites:

Providence Visitors Center

Brown University

All of these links are to let you know a little bit about out surrounding towns if you are not already aware. From three beaches to outside iceskating around town... Newport has it all and it is gorgeous! We enjoyed a quiet Christmas here and the weather is still temperate without anymore snowfall at present. We will keep pictures posted on our Flickr Website as seen when you click on the below right little squares. Jon and I celebrated our birthdays by heading to Nantucket for a Bed and Breakfast night the week before Christmas and enjoyed a wonderful celebration for New Years with our new church home members. As we were headed to some friends in Mass for New Years Day... we got excited about seeing old friends until Jon's car went on the fritz. We just bought the new Pontiac G6 to replace the Grand Prix in a really bright electric-like blue with the panaramic sun-roof. There were several who came from 1000+ miles away and we frankly were unable to spend a large amount of time at the reception with you... not to mention all of the people that I was unable to spend time with before moving out of town that are local Greenville or South Carolinians. Thank you for your support and love at the wedding. Our vows were of upmost importance and it was an honor to have you there.

Some have asked about wedding pictures, which we will not have for some time. Nevertheless, I've been itching to let you see my Bridal Portraits that were so lovely done by Sherry Duckett at Sheryl Renee Photography

Nevertheless, Here are some of our favorites. Nevertheless, if you would like to know what we actually mean by "Black Tie Optional"... the wedding is a formal occasion. The formality is due to the time of the wedding (it seems that noon is one of top formal wedding times); the size of the guest list; and the size of our wedding party.

The biggest thing to remember is that Black Tie Optional is not a step below semi-formal but a step above. Ultimately, it is a black/dark suit with option of a different conservative tie. The dark suit is not optional. I have noticed in the South that people tend think the term means that formal or informal attire should be worn as it is optional... though this is incorrect.

If you'd like to know more detail about what others are wearing please see:

Emily Post on Black Tie Optional

I hope this helps you all who are traveling from far away with packing as well.

**Also- thank you to you all who have completed an RSVP online and/or by mail. I have never received so many kind "accepts" or "regrets", despite our not requiring the RSVP. Jon and I both thank you.

Real Estate Sign Support Works...

Problem Solved.

As you can see, the yellow real estate sign came in handy during the move. Also notice the Cavaliers Symbol from UVA, courtesy of Jon.

This is one of the two full baths in the wrong color, by the way, but nevertheless in shape otherwise. I look forward to decorating and putting my feminine touch on the place; a different color as soon as possible; and a frame around the mirror. I'm open to suggestion on the color... looking into a warm taupe.

Thank you for reading along and I hope this helps especially Mrs. Mayfield who wanted to know. From invitations to colors, to alterations, to food and friends. It is crazy. Though packing will not be far down the line. We have a lot of packing to do here in the South to get me up to the New England states. Just amazing. I have a very large piano and a lot of items, not to mention gifts already given me in celebration of the wedding. It's just crazy.
I tell you though, it is such an honor to be blessed so far from friends and family. From surprise showers to sweet e-mails and lots of love... we are thankful. Working is our primary task and we are happy to be busy despite its distraction from wedding planning and as much enjoyment as this time can afford for others. This weekend was a great way to get away. Otherwise, I have DHEC survey wanting to come into my building and give us the "combing" process (ie- auditing us) and this involves tons of paperwork. This is a yearly survey to either cite and or not cite our facility so as a long-term health provider nurse case manager (nurse administrator) this is a harrowing mountain to climb and can ultimately fall in the laps of only a few people. Unfortunately, I am one of those people.

Nevertheless, our work is hard, but good. Jon is in the middle of teaching this course of new students at the JAG school and he is loving it. He is such a wonderful teacher and lawyer and I am sure the students are finding his jokes to be quite the distraction from boredom in the classroom. He is amazingly intelligent. After moving to Rhode Island, Jon says I will be able to sit in on his classes. Free JAG training for me. In the end, I see myself instead doing a lot more homemaking/domestication of the home for a few months instead of learning case law.

What Digs!

More Than You'll Ever Know...

As time gets closer to the day there is so much more fun with the wedding planning. We are so pleased to have been blessed with dear friends and loved ones who will share our day and such a wonderful future ahead. We praise our Lord for the blessings we have been given. He is a good God and all glory should and does go to Him! This weekend Jon and I get to go to one of several out of town events with close friends from within our wedding party. It is such a pleasure to have made such solid friends over the years and that most all of these are in our wedding party. These friends are the kind who will never forsake you (intentionally, of course); who will never stop giving; and who are always going to be good friends. We are so thankful for these kinds of friends. Anyway- I just wanted to give a great thank you to all of our wedding party attendants and their kind friendships to us. All of you are special in your own unique way to us and have dramatically impacted our lives. We would not have chosen you otherwise and we thank you for witnessing and sharing in our day of celebration. You are dear and we love you.

Greenville

<img style="FLOAT: left; That's when you're full of anticipation, excited to know that something wonderful is about to happen. Well, I agree in part and disagree in part.

On the one hand, anticipation is nice. Tonight I will fly down to South Carolina to see Amy. I'm practically bouncing around the office! Why is that clock so SLOW??? Is it time to leave yet? I'm packed already! I mean, it's kind of hard to get any work done.

On the other hand, I love the moment when Amy appears at the airport. Last time I flew down there, it was all I could do not to RUN to find her. (I was a little concerned, though, that security would consider this suspicious behavior, so I just walked quickly instead.) That moment of pure joy upon seeing her is such a wonderful rush.

So given my choice, I'll have my cake and eat it too: I'll like both the anticipation AND the moment itself. Now if only I could get rid of that pesky problem of having to leave her at the end of the weekend... Guess I have to wait (with great anticipation) for November to get here. (Hurry up!)
...
By the way, our parents are meeting each other for the first time this weekend. I don't expect anything out of Meet the Fockers. But it'll be an interesting time, I'm sure. :-) Stay tuned!

As Everyone Says...

weddings are busy.

I always thought people were joking when they said it is busy with planning a wedding. No joke. It is busy. I have a full time job and am having to go to part-time just to get the planning complete... and we are keeping it simple. Seriously. Amazing how much energy it can drain from you. Not that I'm complaining about me and Jon. Thankfully, that area is wonderful and oftentimes makes me question how in the world did weddings turn out to be such an elaborate display. So heads up we are cutting out a few things. To name a few: no tossing of an extra bouquet or throwing of the garder. No extra decorations for the church including at present... no flowers. And no favors. They are just one added thing to think about that does not contribute to our vows or the value of the day. But I will say that I am pleased with a delicious looking wedding cake as well as a friend who voluteered to make chocolate cupcakes... Yum! We have our last counseling on Saturday and thankfully have enough patience to wait until the wedding date to actually to be wed vs eloping. But I can see why many people do.

We appreciate any prayers in regard to this and also to our packing my items to move the 2,000 mile trek.

Despite all of these concerns, we are so happy and looking forward to being married! We also look forward to the Big Day as it approaches and seeing you all there!
<img width='1' height='1' Here is a brief explanation.

Links:
1) Discovery Place: is one of my favorite learning spots for children, and since our desire is to have a lot of children (9-10!), we may have to get year-round passes to a place such as this. In the meantime, take your children there. They will love it, they will learn, and they will probably boost a grade or two in school.

2)Boesendorfer: is the piano I played on in high school at my professor's house (Dr. Bolen - Doctorate in Piano, Florida State University). It is known as one of the best pianos in the world and though it's not like my Yamaha (tongue in cheek), it did all right while I was in school. It's here as a "favorites" link.

3/4) Church Creek and Woodruff Road: are phenomenal PCA churches in Charleston, SC, and Greenville, SC. Woodruff Road is where our wedding will be.

5)Great Site: is a wonderful biblical teaching site on translation and history of the Bible. Both Jon and I have studied Bible translation. And while I haven't taken Greek yet, it is my desire to continue to disciple other girls in Bible-study techniques and methods, as well I totally respect Jon for already having had learned much about language and translation of the Bible so far. He is a great leader!!

6) Eepy Bird: is a silly and yet hysterical site that my brother Brad told me about to get a clean/fun laugh. Hope you enjoy it also... just don't drink Diet Coke and eat Mentos at the same time. :)

**By the way, you can click on the pictures on the right sidebar to see more of our own pics at this time. We will have more pics and posts soon. Have fun in the meantime!

From the Desk of Jonathan:

Hello, everybody!
